The reality of Taiwanese society between 1994 and 1996 is reflected through the collision of values between the two main characters: the courageous journalist Su Wan-chen who has a strong sense of justice, and the astute heir of a prestigious family, Chen Ching-tang.

The entry of Su Wan-chen in Chen Ching-tang’s life, like the twilight shining in the Arctic winter solstice, which made him started to gain the sense of justice; while to Su Wan-chen, Chen Ching-tang’s appearance, like the shadow under the sunlight, made her to realize that truth and justice cannot always be achieved through idealist ways.

As the frontline of resisting the monstrous tyranny, the Taiwanese nation will never be afraid.

In 1996, on the eve of the first direct presidential election in Taiwan, the Communist China employed all sorts of threats against this island nation. Yet the Taiwanese people, instead of choosing surrendering to the bully, they chose to face the danger without flinching, they chose the path of dignity.

Taiwan will always be a free and democratic nation, no one can change that.
